💍 Wedding Planning Guide

Helpful wedding planning advice from working hundreds of weddings across Oklahoma.

Congratulations on your engagement! Planning a wedding is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming. This guide is here to help you think through the details that matter most to your wedding day, your reception, your guests, and the memories you want to keep forever.

After years of working weddings across Oklahoma, I’ve seen what helps a reception feel smooth, fun, and memorable. I’ll also share photo booth advice along the way so you can decide what works best for your celebration.

📅 When should we start planning our wedding?

Most couples begin planning their wedding many months in advance, especially if they want a popular venue, Saturday date, or busy wedding season. Once you have your date and venue, it becomes much easier to book your photographer, DJ, caterer, florist, photo booth, and other vendors.

Dave’s Tip: If your wedding is in spring or fall, don’t wait too long. Those are popular seasons in Oklahoma, and good vendors can book quickly.

🏛️ What should we book first?

Your venue should usually come first because it locks in your wedding date. After that, I recommend booking your photographer, DJ, catering, and entertainment vendors early.

Your photo booth should also be reserved once your date is confirmed. Snap Me Crazy can only be in so many places on the same day, and popular dates can fill up quickly.

💵 How should we think about our wedding budget?

Spend money on the things people will experience and remember. Food, music, photography, entertainment, and guest experience usually make the biggest impact.

A professional photo booth can be a great value because it provides entertainment, printed keepsakes, digital photos, and memories from your guests all in one experience.

📸 Is a wedding photo booth worth it?

Yes, especially if you want your guests to have fun and take home something personal from your wedding.

A photo booth gives guests something to do between dinner, dancing, and reception events. It also creates photos of your family and friends laughing, posing, and being themselves.

At Snap Me Crazy, we use professional camera equipment and soft beauty lighting so your photo booth pictures look bright, flattering, and worthy of keeping.

🕒 How many hours should we rent a wedding photo booth?

Most couples choose three or four hours. Three hours works well for many receptions. Four hours is better for larger weddings, longer receptions, or couples who want guests to enjoy the booth throughout more of the evening.

Dave’s Tip: If you have a larger guest count, the extra hour can help guests enjoy the booth without feeling rushed.

🍽️ Should the photo booth be open during dinner?

Usually, I recommend opening the booth after dinner or once guests begin moving around. During dinner, most guests are seated, eating, or listening to toasts.

The booth usually gets more use once guests are relaxed, visiting, and ready to have fun.

🎶 When is the best time to open the photo booth?

A great time is shortly after dinner, once dancing begins or the reception starts to loosen up. Guests are dressed up, relaxed, and ready to enjoy the evening.

If your reception has cocktail hour, we can also discuss whether opening earlier makes sense for your timeline.

📍 Where should the photo booth go at the reception?

The booth should be close to the action, but not in the way. Near the dance floor, guest tables, or main reception area usually works well.

Avoid placing the booth in a far corner where guests may not notice it. Also avoid blocking the DJ, catering line, bar, entrance, exits, or main walkways.

📐 How much space does a wedding photo booth need?

Most setups need about 10 feet by 10 feet of space and one regular electrical outlet within about 15 feet.

This gives us room for the booth, backdrop, props, lighting, printer, and guests.

💡 Why does lighting matter so much?

Lighting can make or break a photo. Poor lighting can create harsh shadows, shiny faces, dark eyes, or blurry-looking pictures.

Snap Me Crazy uses soft beauty lighting designed to flatter your guests. Combined with professional camera equipment, it helps create bright, clean, beautiful images that look much better than typical booth snapshots.

📷 Why do Snap Me Crazy wedding photos look different?

Many booths use tablets or inexpensive cameras. Our Studio Photo Booth uses professional camera equipment and soft beauty lighting to create sharper, more flattering photos.

Your wedding only happens once. We believe your photo booth pictures should look like keepsakes, not throwaway snapshots.

🎨 Can we customize our wedding photo strips?

Yes. Custom photo strip design is one of our favorite parts of the wedding experience.

We can include your names, wedding date, colors, theme, flowers, monogram, venue style, or custom wording. Your strips should feel like they belong to your wedding, not like a generic template.

📖 Should we have a wedding photo booth scrapbook?

Absolutely. A scrapbook turns your photo booth into a memory book.

Guests place a photo strip in the book and write a handwritten message beside it. Years later, couples often tell us it became one of their favorite keepsakes from the reception.

🎁 Can a photo booth replace wedding favors?

For many couples, yes. A photo strip is a personal keepsake your guests actually want to take home.

Instead of a favor that might get left behind, guests leave with a fun photo from your wedding day.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Will older guests enjoy the photo booth?

Yes. One of the best things about a photo booth is that it brings generations together.

Grandparents, parents, kids, cousins, and friends all end up laughing together. Those are the moments couples love seeing later in the gallery.

👧 Will kids enjoy the photo booth?

Definitely. Kids love props, silly poses, and instant prints.

A photo booth can also give children something fun to do during the reception, especially after dinner or during dancing.

🎤 How should we plan speeches and toasts?

Keep speeches meaningful but not too long. Guests enjoy heartfelt moments, but long speeches can slow down the energy of the reception.

If you have several speeches, consider placing them before or during dinner so the party can build afterward.

🍰 When should we cut the cake?

Many couples cut the cake shortly after dinner or before dancing gets fully underway. It creates a nice transition from formal reception events into the fun part of the evening.

After cake cutting is often a great time for guests to start visiting the photo booth.

🕺 When should dancing begin?

Dancing usually begins after dinner, toasts, cake cutting, and special dances. Once the dance floor opens, the energy of the reception changes.

This is also a great time for the photo booth to be open because guests are relaxed, social, and ready to have fun.

📝 Should we create a wedding reception timeline?

Yes. A timeline helps your vendors work together and keeps the evening from feeling rushed.

Your timeline should include arrival, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, toasts, cake cutting, first dance, parent dances, photo booth opening time, bouquet toss, last dance, and exit if you have one.

🤝 Should we share our timeline with vendors?

Yes. Your DJ, photographer, planner, caterer, venue, and photo booth company should all understand the flow of the evening.

When everyone knows the plan, the reception feels smoother and less stressful.

🌦️ What if our wedding is outdoors?

Outdoor weddings can be beautiful, but Oklahoma weather can change quickly.

For an outdoor photo booth setup, we need protection from rain, strong wind, direct sun, extreme heat, and unsafe ground conditions. A covered patio, tent, pavilion, shaded area, or indoor backup location is always recommended.

If your wedding reception will be outdoors, please let us know when you book.

🏕️ Do we need a backup plan for weather?

Yes. Every outdoor wedding should have a backup plan, even if the forecast looks good.

A rain plan protects your guests, your vendors, and your wedding timeline. For the photo booth, an indoor or covered backup location is the safest choice.

🔌 What does the photo booth need from the venue?

We need a safe, level area, enough room to set up, and access to a standard electrical outlet within about 15 feet.

If your venue has special rules about setup times, loading areas, elevators, outdoor spaces, or insurance, it’s helpful to let us know ahead of time.

⏰ How early should vendors arrive?

Every vendor is different, but setup time matters. At Snap Me Crazy, we arrive early enough to set up, test equipment, check lighting, prepare props, and make sure the booth is ready before your contracted start time.

Our goal is simple: when your guests are ready, the booth is ready.

🧭 How do we keep guests moving smoothly through the reception?

Good layout makes a big difference. Keep the bar, DJ, dance floor, catering, guest book, and photo booth positioned where guests can move easily.

If the booth is too far away, guests may not use it. If it is too close to a crowded walkway, it can create a bottleneck.

🎉 How do we keep guests entertained if they do not dance?

Not every guest loves dancing, and that’s okay.

A photo booth gives non-dancers something fun to do. It helps guests mingle, laugh, and participate without having to be on the dance floor.

📱 Do guests get digital copies?

Yes. Guests can usually receive digital copies by QR code, text, email, AirDrop, or through the online gallery, depending on the booth and venue internet or cell service.

If internet service is weak, we can still capture the photos and make them available later.

🖨️ Do guests get printed copies?

Yes. Printed photos are one of the biggest reasons guests love the booth.

Depending on your package, everyone in the photo may receive a copy, so nobody has to argue over who gets the strip.

🖼️ Do we receive an online gallery?

Yes. Your event photos are typically placed in an online gallery for approximately one year.

This lets you and your guests view, download, and share photos after the wedding.

🎥 Should we add a 360 video booth to our wedding?

A 360 booth is a great choice if you want high-energy videos your guests can share.

Our 360 video booth includes video booth directors who help guests pose, move, and create stunning videos. It adds excitement and gives your reception a modern, social-media-friendly experience.

💍 Should we choose the open air booth or the 360 booth?

If you want beautiful printed keepsakes, the Open Air Studio Photo Booth is the best choice.

If you want dramatic, shareable video clips, the 360 booth is a great option.

Some couples choose both so guests can enjoy printed photos and exciting videos.

👰 What should the bride and groom remember most?

Your wedding day will go by quickly. Try not to spend the whole day worrying about every small detail.

Take time to laugh, dance, hug your family, enjoy your guests, and step into the photo booth together. Some of the best wedding memories come from the unplanned moments.

⭐ What is Dave’s biggest wedding planning tip?

Focus on the experience.

Beautiful decorations are wonderful, but your guests will remember how your wedding felt. They’ll remember the music, the food, the laughter, the dancing, and the moments they shared with you.

A professional photo booth helps capture those moments in a fun, relaxed way—and gives you a gallery full of smiles you may have missed during the busy reception.

💬 Still have wedding planning questions?

I’d be happy to help.

Every wedding is different, and I’m always glad to talk through your date, venue, guest count, reception timeline, package options, and the best photo booth setup for your celebration.
